# DoS- Exploiting Countermeasures (MIC failure)

One countermeasure against DoS attacks is called "MIC failure" (Message Integrity Code failure). MIC is a form of cryptographic protection used in Wi-Fi networks, particularly those secured with WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) or WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) protocols. MIC ensures that data packets transmitted over the wireless network are not tampered with or altered in transit.

In the context of DoS attacks, a MIC failure can occur when the integrity of the data packets is compromised. Attackers might attempt to exploit vulnerabilities in the cryptographic algorithms or implementation flaws in the Wi-Fi access points or clients to manipulate the data packets in such a way that they pass the integrity check but contain malicious content.

\
If an attacker has forged a victim user with two MIC Failure Reports, then this user is blocked for 1 minute.

If the attacker continues to send invalid attempts, the victim user will be banned.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://0xkourama.gitbook.io/blog/wi-fi-attacks/dos-flooding/dos-exploiting-countermeasures-mic-failure.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
